Driveshaft Loops & Scatter Guards

I've had a couple of phone calls regarding the new driveshaft loop and scatter guard specifications, so I thought I'd post some pictures to help clarify.

Drive Shaft Loop Specs:
Front Driveline: One Scatterguard on the Pinion of Front Axle
Rear Driveline: One Loop (1/4" x 1" Steel or 3/8" x 1-1/2" Aluminum) and Two Scatter Guards
Scatter Guards must be at least 1/8" steel and completely cover both yokes (full circle).

Front Driveline

The above photo shows the scatter guard on the pinion of the front axle. Notice it completely covers both yokes (pinion & driveshaft). It is also bolted to the casting, so it can be removed for servicing. Keep in mind that for scatter guards, the primary purpose is to contain the shrapnel from an exploding U-Joint. The pictured scatter guard is on a Dana 44.

Rear Driveline

Rear driveline driveshaft loop at least 1/4" x 1" steel.

Rear driveline scatter guard on transfer case.

Rear driveline scatter guard on axle pinion. (Ford 9)

Hope this helps. Thanks to Will Gibbons for providing the pictures.
