I think some people like myself are getting out of the mud drags cause they arn't nearly as fun anymore! I have 3 other friends that were going to mud drag but since knowone is changing the rules to make the races closer all of us are selling our trucks and going racing down the strip and circle track! When I first started about four years ago I had a blast for two years then you could tell that the rules were going to need changed to keep racing close and fun, we asked for rule changes and nothing was done so we are done with the mud drags!

Grasshopper, Sorry to hear that your getting out of the sport. Custer did a lot of rule changes this year, if you were having fun when you first started and 2 years after then you should race central nebra. Their rules are the original rules from back then. Theres some where that fits if you just look. We always have a good time where ever we go, win, lose or draw. Must of the people we race with are pretty good people and thats what makes it fun.

It's always fun but mainly the rules I thought needed to get tightened down in the vaccum part cause it sure is hard to pull the vaccum with a small block compared to a big block I think that was the problem we had and its kinda hard to change motors to a big block after I just spent about 5,000 rebuilding the one I had. If I would ever race again in mud drags I would go to mid-states their rules seem to be going in the right direction!

Weird, I always thought it was easier to pull vacume with a small block compared to a big block. I have a hard time getting much over 17 out of my big block. I havent made a mid states race yet, always seems to be the wrong time of the year for me to go to the invitational.

Yeah that is weird, maybe its a chevy thing but by more displacement you gain more vaccum you get, I've played around and found this out by buying multiple cams and having different motors to see how much vaccum each motor can pull, thats why mid-states has different vaccum tolerences with a big block and small block cause a big block will have more power than a small block at the same vaccum, That's why I think mid-states has a better system cause they see this and have mad adjustments to the rules to make it a better race and makes it that much more exciting for the fans and drivers!

I think you would be surprised at how many small blocks do well. I am not sure how it worked out for midstates but I must say that if you find the right cam grinder you will be surprised how good of vacuum you can make. I am not saying we will never change rule, but I know of 3 small blocks last year that placed as much as anybody. I would also add that torque converter selection and gear ratio will usually make up for lack of cubes.

I would like to also put a thought in everyone mind about what is coming down the road when it comes to small blocks. It is the LS, Hemi and even the tritan engines. You want to give up any vacuum to those guys? We have not seen it around here yet but I know the LS is just as exciting as the old iron and they are making some BIG horsepower.
